For quite a few years we were all a bit "spoiled" with low gas prices. It seemed to be no problem to drive cars, trucks and SUVs that were apparently built without much regard to fuel efficiency. But in today's more challenging environment, the price of gas has become more of an issue. That's why it's nice to know that Kia has always engineered their vehicles to stretch your gas dollar farther and get you more for every gallon you buy.

Example #1 - The 2022 Kia Sportage SUV: Up to 30 mpg

The Kia Sportage is Kia's most popular model and one reason is because it's so efficient in terms of gas mileage. The base level Kia engine is a 2.4-liter four cylinder, yet even with 181 horsepower, it's restrained when it comes to using gas. The front-drive model gets an estimated 23 miles with every gallon on city streets and a healthy 30 miles with each highway gallon. The front-drive turbo does almost as well at 20 mpg/city, 28-highway.

Example #2 - The 2022 Kia K-5 Sedan: Up to 38 mpg

For 2022, the K-5 has what Car & Driver described as "exciting design," and it matches those good looks with appealing performance in fuel efficiency. Most Kia K-5 models have a 180-horsepower four-cylinder engine so, once again, the power plant moves the car well without being overweight. The base four gets a gratifying 29 mpg in the city and an even more gratifying 38 mpg on highways around College Station or Brenham, TX.

Example #3 – The 2022 Kia Soul SUV: Up to 35 mpg

The 2022 Kia Soul available at Sterling Kia is powered by an even more "contained" engine: A 147-horsepower four-cylinder. The EPA rates the newest Kia Soul with a number as high as 27 miles with each gallon you use in urban areas and up to 35 miles with every gallon you travel on the highway. The turbocharged Kia Soul isn't too far off that same pace. Car & Driver ran a test at 75 mph and got a very efficient 33 miles per gallon.

Example #4 – The 2022 Kia Sorento SUV: Up to 39 mpg

Even if you haven't driven it, you've probably admired the 2022 Kia Sorento with its good looks and compact footprint. The Sorento starts its engine selection with a 2.5-liter inline four that produces 191 horsepower. That engine can take you 24 miles in the city with each gallon of gas and travel 29 miles on a gallon when you're going over highways. The hybrid model is the clear Sorento mileage champ, however, with up to 39 mpg on the highway.

Example #5 – The 2022 Kia Seltos SUV: Up to 35 mpg

The automotive experts at U.S. News & World Report called the 2022 Kia Seltos "one of the roomiest and most fuel-efficient subcompact SUVs around," noting that the seats are spacious and cargo room is "huge." Yet with all those strengths, the newest Kia Seltos still manages to get a lot from a gallon of gas. Its front-wheel drive 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine gets as much as 35 miles with every gallon out on the highway.

Example #6 – The 2022 Kia Niro SUV: Up to 53 mpg

The Kia Niro at Sterling Kia is a nimble SUV that's Kia's smallest model so you would expect it to do well in fuel efficiency and it does. It seats up to five and has a low starting price. Because of engineering dynamics, the most cost-effective hybrid model actually gets higher mileage in the city: Up to a mind-boggling 53 miles per gallon.
